From the West, visitors must arrive via Yellowstone National Park. Park entrance fees are required. This northern road is the only year-round access available.
Getting to the cabins from the east (Billings/Red Lodge) relies on the status of the Beartooth Highway (212), which is usually closed from October to late May due to snow. The Chief Joseph Highway (to/from Cody) usually opens earlier in May.
Please check road conditions when planning your visit. Similar restrictions may affect visitors coming by way of Cody and the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway.
- Take Yellowstone’s northern road through the park heading East, from Mammoth to Roosevelt Junction.
- At Roosevelt, turn left toward the Lamar Valley.
- Drive East to Yellowstone’s Northeast gate.

- Just past the Stop the Car Trading Post, take a right onto Monument Avenue.

- Just past the bridge, you’ll pass Whispering Pines Cabins. Look for a long gravel driveway on the left side of the road with the sign “Silver Willows.” You’re here!
- Head up the driveway. The cabins are located to the left through the trees (Sarva) or straight ahead (Ursa).
- From Billings/Red Lodge, take the Beartooth Scenic Highway (Hwy 212) West toward Cooke City.
- OR from Cody, take the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway (Hwy 296) to Cooke City.
